Strength in Weakness…

There are those times in life where you’ve heard something over and over again knowing in your head and understanding with your brain what someone is saying or what you’re reading…

Then there are those times when you’ve heard that something over and over again and it finally makes sense in your heart…

Today I had one of those moments. I was meeting with an older brother and we were talking about leadership and he was describing to me how he perceived how I lead… and when he finished I told him that I could do better… “I always feel like I can do better…” And then he said something – that something I’ve heard over and over again – that made me remember 2 Corinthians 2:9-12.

But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

It’s not about me… it’s not about what I am capable of or what I am doing at all… it’s about the power of Christ in me that is revealed in my weakness. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

I’m also reminded of my pride and my dependence on myself… We are always told that we have to pull ourselves up by our own bootstraps. I say no more! Let Christ pull me up. Let me delight in my hardships, in my persecutions, and in my difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
